Chibi Wolverine / Fan Art
Testing my abilities as a concept artist to build something from scratch using traditional pencil & modern digital methods. I've always admired the characterization available in a small & simple character.
This design has a good mix of small, medium & large shapes.
Wolverine character has always inspired me and I've been a big fan of the comic story behind his character. Juxtaposing what we know of Wolverine with this young clean faced chibi Wolvie cracks me up.
I'm eager to see this character move into different poses on the spinning platform, as well change his player skin. I'd really like to see this character transition between an this version into an angry faced, arms out pose. Guess we'll see!
I'll be looking to start Deadpool next.

I often go to my clipboard of white computer paper to get a quick pose idea out. Here in my hasty drawings are fast measurements and motions I'm thinking about. Often a crappy drawing can be the foundation to a great concept. I think napkin or thumbnail ideas can be so cool.
In Maya I blockout a 3d greybox with all the important angles and details I want to focus on.
Then I take the blockout into Marmoset Toolbag, to use lights and the turntable ability to get actual info for my intended drawing.

Technically, I could spend a long long time staying in 2d, to get the turnaround like the old days.. I prefer this fast method so I can sort of turn my brain off and get to the end result faster. I'm feeling very excited to keep on exploring this method. It takes me back to when I was a young artist, drawing xmen and ninja turtles. Turtles were easier haa.
During the process I use Mixamo to find poses for the character I'm making. I can then take these animations into marmoset for controlling stage and lighting.

DANG! Now you know my tricks.
